(IFN) Finnair reports a 5.2% rise in passenger traffic

Reykjavik (IFN) Finnish flag carrier Finnair reported on Monday that the group carried 815,100 passengers in June 2006, up by 5.2% from June 2005.

The traffic performance of Finnair Group airlines altogether increased by 7.8% in June, while the capacity was up by 2.9%, resulting in a passenger load factor of 78.7%, 3.5 points higher than last year.

Total scheduled traffic increased by 13.4%, while passenger load factor was 76.2%, up 5.2 percentage points. The number of passengers carried was 679,500, up 9.0%.

Finnair's Tallinn-based subsidiary Aero AS carried 70,800 passengers, an increase of 12.5%, on routes between Helsinki and the Baltic capitals and within Southern Finland.

The Stockholm-based FlyNordic carried 107,900 passengers, up 9.8%. Icelandic investment company FL Group holds a 10% stake in Finnair, and is rumoured to be in talks on a three-way merger of Denmark's Sterling, Sweden's FlyMe and FlyNordic.

FL Group owns Sterling and Icelandic holding company Fons is the largest shareholder in FlyMe.
