The company has submitted an application for a permit in accordance with the Swedish Environmental Code for mining and processing at Fäboliden outside of Lycksele. The mine and processing facilities for extracting gold and converting it into finished doré ingots have a planned capacity of 5 million tons of ore per year.
The application, complete with appendices and reports, is a comprehensive document of around 2,000 pages and has been submitted to the Environmental Court. The processing facility will be designed to process gold and silver from the Fäboliden deposit and from nearby mines.
"The work with preparing an environmental impact assessment (EIA), technical report and the large number of calculations linked to the application has been underway since 2001 and has involved a great number of specialists in various areas. The application is based on documents which have been co-ordinated and prepared by Sweco in close collaboration with the company," says Karl-Åke Johansson, CEO of Lappland Goldminers.
The Fäboliden deposit lies along what is known as the "Gold Line" in Västerbotten. Lappland Goldminers is currently working on a number of interesting projects along this line, where there is great potential for new finds.
