In 2006 Russian authorities imposed restrictions on imports of fresh salmon from Norway and up until today only Pan Fish Norway (M394) and Marine Harvest Norway (ST400) have been approved for exports of fresh salmon. Russian authorities have however now approved 6 more processing plants such that after this a total of 8 processing plants are certified for exports to Russia.
- Norwegian fish farmers have invested heavily in marketing towards the Russian market and improved access to the market is very important for the industry. Exports to Russia out of Norway grew by 36% in 2005 and Russia represents a significant proportion of the growth potential for exports of farmed salmon out of Norway going forward. The strict requirements which have been established by Russian authorities is an inspiration to work even harder to ensure that the products we sell meets the absolute highest quality standards, says CEO Atle Eide and continues; - We have a firm belief that when more companies now gets access to the market we will be able increase the total exports of quality salmon to Russia.
