The Norwegian solar energy systems and components manufacturer Renewable Energy Corporation ASA (REC) said on Wednesday (20 September) that it has decided to invest USD50m in removing bottlenecks at its polysilicon plant in Butte, Montana, in the US.
The investment involves increasing silane gas production capacity and renewing a third of the plant's Siemens reactors, and will increase the polysilicon production by close to 20% to a total of 13,500 MT.
REC on Wednesday also announced that it will invest a total of NOK800m in its solar cell and solar module production plants in Norway and Sweden.
REC said that it will invest NOK700m to more than quadruple the solar cell production at its plant in Narvik, Norway, and NOK100m to double the solar module production at its plant in Glava, Sweden.
The investments are expected to create 175 new jobs in Narvik and 20 in Glava over the next 18 months.
One US dollar (USD) is worth approximately 0.52 British pounds (GBP).
One Norwegian krone (NOK) is worth approximately 0.08 British pounds (GBP).
