Scandinavian airline group SAS reported on Tuesday (7 February) that its number of transported passengers had increased by 8.4% year-on-year to 2.5m passengers in January 2006. Total passenger traffic (RPK) in January had increased by 6.1%, according to SAS, while capacity (ASK) decreased by 4.8%. Overall group passenger load increased by 6.5 percentage points to 63.5% in January 2006, as compared to January 2005. SAS Group European traffic increased by 19.6% and passenger load factor increased by 9.4 percentage points in January 2006, primarily due to new business models and strong growth for Spanair. Spanair's traffic was up 39.9% and its load factor increased by 8.7 percentage points to 57.3%. Blue1 in Finland continued to grow and reported a traffic increase of 19.5%. airBaltic also continued to grow and its traffic was up 64.8%.
