Södra Cell's web-based planning system for supplier managed inventory of paper pulp has been named the year's best integrated e-business solution. The award was handed out as part of the prestigious Microsoft .NET Awards contest.
The Microsoft contest is intended to recognize and reward partners who have developed unique, valuable and innovate solutions based on Microsoft's .NET platform. This year's contest was the fifth of its kind in Sweden, and the number of entries grew 20 percent to 170 from last year. Twenty-one of the entries were nominated for the top prizes in seven different categories.
The awards ceremony was preceded by the Microsoft Partner Summit, an annual presentation of the company's latest software. 1,400 people from 600 Swedish IT consulting firms and a number of their customers filled the Stockholm Concert Hall and adjacent Filmstaden Sergel for an entire day. Roughly the same number was on hand during the evening for the gala prize ceremony in the Concert Hall's main auditorium.
Södra Cell's planning system was the winner in its category, Integrated e-Business Solutions. The solution was developed by IT consulting firm Capgemini, working in close cooperation with their client. The tools for managing deliveries and planned consumption of pulp are available on the PulpServices Online customer website.
"The fact that we were nominated and won is an acknowledgement of our having, together with Södra Cell, succeeded in creating clear business benefits with the help of Microsoft products," says Robert Karlsson, Capgemini's project manager for PulpServices Online.
In its award statement, the panel of judges pointed out that Capgemini's and Södra Cell's solution bears witness to a strong understanding of the different needs of different customers.
Södra Cell Customer IT Manager Jonas Richardson was delighted by the award, and most importantly by having been able to create real benefits for Södra Cell's customers.
"The greatest strength of our supplier managed inventory solution is its dual flexibility. What that means is that the customers, i.e. the papermakers, can choose to enter essential information online, or send it in directly from their own systems, or use a combination of both methods. As a result, our solution suits both small and large customers, and a customer can make the transition to supplier managed inventory very quickly. "Thanks to our message exchange, the customer can also choose the messaging standard that suits them best in their communications with us."
