SWISS has been raising funds for SOS Children's Villages since September 2002, by distributing envelopes aboard its flights in which passengers are invited to place any spare change or foreign currency they no longer require. Coins and notes in over 150 currencies have been accumulated since the collection campaign began.
SWISS passengers donated CHF 208 800.40 through these inflight collections last year. The funds will be used to finance the building of a house for a "family" in the new SOS Children's Village in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Village will offer safe and loving homes to orphaned children in the region.
SWISS is delighted at its passengers' generosity in supporting these endeavours, which provide a home for disadvantaged children all over the world. The funds from SWISS's inflight collections in 2004 were used to support an SOS Holiday Camp in Caldonazzo, Italy.
