Finnish-Swedish telecomms operator TeliaSonera AB reported on Tuesday (25 April) an operating profit of SEK5.4bn on net sales of SEK22.0bn for the financial quarter January-March 2006.
Operating profit for the three-month period increased from SEK4.7bn while net sales increased from SEK20.8bn, as compared to the corresponding period in 2005.
TeliaSonera said that it had gained 2.9 million new customers in its Nordic and Baltic operations during the period. The company had also signed up 15.5 million new customers in the associated companies MegaFon and Turkcell.
"We had a very strong quarter with 6% growth, 2 percentage points higher margin and more than SEK6bn results from operations. All operations improved results. Our dividend payments make us one of the highest yielding stocks in our industry," said Anders Igel, CEO of TeliaSonera.
Group net sales and results before taxes in 2006 are expected to grow.
One Swedish krona (SEK) is worth approximately 0.07 British pounds (GBP).
